MID-ATLANTIC ELECTRIC POWER PLANT INSTALLS A FIRST CLASS METEOROLOGICAL TOWER

The installation of new meteorological systems supplied by Climatronics (a subsidiary of Met One Instruments, Inc.)  for the primary and secondary towers at a mid-Atlantic electric power plant was recently completed by the utility's staff.  The systems measure the winds, air temperature, and relative humidity at two levels on the main tower and at the top of the secondary tower.  Data are recorded with IMP-865 data loggers at each tower with factory integrated systems providing rapid installation and setup for the utility technicians. MOI INTRODUCES THE BC-1050 BLACK CARBON MONITOR GLOBALLY

You are here: EPA Home Air and Radiation Black Carbon Basic Information Basic Information (From T. Bond 2007)         BC Emissons, Gigagrams What is Black Carbon? Black carbon (BC) is the most strongly light-absorbing component of particulate matter (PM), and is formed by the incomplete combustion of fossil fuels, biofuels, and biomass. BC is emitted directly into the atmosphere in the form of fine particles (PM 2.5 ). BC is the most effective form of PM, by mass, at absorbing solar energy: per unit of mass in the atmosphere, BC can absorb a million times more energy than carbon dioxide (CO 2 ).  BC is a major component of “soot”, a complex light-absorbing mixture that also contains some organic carbon (OC).
