China's Latest 'Airpocalypse' Seen from Space

Recent satellite images of the country show large hazy clouds covering portions of northeastern China that are so thick they can be seen from space. The images,

Using a HandHeld Indoor Monitor Outdoors Means Unreliable Results - 2242 ug for PM 2.5

In a recent article in Weibo, the person monitored the outdoor air in Beijing and got a reading of 2242 ug for PM 2.5  which was posted in a blog.  The official monitors registered more than 1/2 lower reading for PM2.5 at the same time.  This is the prime example of why using a handheld monitor to measure ambient air will not offer reliable data.

According to their CFO Riley Loftin, “The business environment in California is very difficult on manufacturing companies. It’s one of the main reasons why people move out of California to go find something else – they get frustrated with it all.” “It’s easy for us to do business here,” said Peter. “It’s easy for us to get our products shipped and it’s easy for us to get components locally if we can’t make them ourselves. We Need to Know the Quality of Air We Breathe.

Attilio Poli Managing Director at Asia Pacific Air Quality Group Pte Ltd Met One Instruments, Inc. distributor in Singapore. Monitoring the Haze at Our Own Place Sep 15, 2015 During the past few days Singapore has been affected by the haze originating from the wild fires in Sumatra (Indonesia). The concentrations of PM2.5 have often reached unhealthy levels and we all have been looking at the update of the PSI (Pollution Standard Index) data. We need to know the quality of the air that we breath The concentrations can be different from place to place and what we need to know more is how much high and unhealthy is the air that we are breathing where we are living, working, where our kids are playing. We need to know it right now It is extremely important to know that the air that we are breathing is unhealthy exactly in the moment when it happens, not later, even if it is only three hours later. NEW BLACK CARBON MONITOR SHIPPING WORLDWIDE

ANOTHER QUALITY PRODUCT FROM MET ONE INSTRUMENTS, INC. contact: sales@metone.com The BC-1050 is a two-channel, continuous, filter-based monitor that simultaneously measures black carbon “BC” and UV-equivalent particulate matter “UVPM”. Measurements are made through the principle of optical absorption. Attenuation of one light source in the near-infrared “NIR” (935 nm) and another in the ultraviolet “UV” (375 nm) are simultaneously monitored across quartz fiber filter onto which particulate matter is being deposited in real time. The attenuation of the NIR source is used to quantify BC; the attenuation of the UV source may be used to quantify UVPM (UV-equivalent particulate matter).  The BC-1050 is highly sensitive: the lower limit of detection is approximately 2 ng/m3 (note 1 ng = .001 μg). The minimum time resolution of the BC-1050 is 1-minute, although 5, 10, 15, 30 and 60-minute time resolution is also available. Each BC-1050 includes: 1 BC-1050 Two Channel (935 nm and 375 nm)

MID-ATLANTIC ELECTRIC POWER PLANT INSTALLS A FIRST CLASS METEOROLOGICAL TOWER

The installation of new meteorological systems supplied by Climatronics (a subsidiary of Met One Instruments, Inc.)  for the primary and secondary towers at a mid-Atlantic electric power plant was recently completed by the utility's staff.  The systems measure the winds, air temperature, and relative humidity at two levels on the main tower and at the top of the secondary tower.  Data are recorded with IMP-865 data loggers at each tower with factory integrated systems providing rapid installation and setup for the utility technicians. MOI INTRODUCES THE BC-1050 BLACK CARBON MONITOR GLOBALLY

You are here: EPA Home Air and Radiation Black Carbon Basic Information Basic Information (From T. Bond 2007)         BC Emissons, Gigagrams What is Black Carbon? Black carbon (BC) is the most strongly light-absorbing component of particulate matter (PM), and is formed by the incomplete combustion of fossil fuels, biofuels, and biomass. BC is emitted directly into the atmosphere in the form of fine particles (PM 2.5 ). BC is the most effective form of PM, by mass, at absorbing solar energy: per unit of mass in the atmosphere, BC can absorb a million times more energy than carbon dioxide (CO 2 ).  BC is a major component of “soot”, a complex light-absorbing mixture that also contains some organic carbon (OC). E-FRM RECEIVES USEPA DESIGNATION

The model E-FRM is a single-event ambient air sampler designed to meet all USEPA PM2.5 FRM specifications.  USEPA PM2.5 FRM designation number for the E-FRM equipped with either a VSCC or a WINS impactor is FRPS-0315-221.  USEPA PM10 FRM designation testing is currently underway.  The E-FRM holds a single 47mm teflon filter disc in a filter cassette.  The cassette must be replaced by the operator for each sample.  The flow rate is 16.7 L/min.  Flow data can be downloaded through the serial port or copied directly to a USB flash drive.  See Data Sheet or manual. The E-FRM works very much like the SASS and has the same user interface.  The E-FRM sampler folds down into its own stand for easy transportation and storage.  The entire pump box is removable for easy carrying and service.  It is completely weatherproof for outdoor sampling.
