Winter Can Be the Most Effective Time to Test Indoor Air Quality

Major contributors of indoor pollution include combustible heating sources which emit miniscule particles that can deeply penetrate one's lungs and can cause or worsen respiratory disease.   Dander can also amplify in the winter as conditions prevent spending significant time outdoors, resulting in greater prevalence of allergic symptoms.    Met One Instruments, Inc. offers affordable instruments to measure such fine particulates using a handheld particle counter or mass concentration monitor in order to help determine steps to reduce indoor air pollution. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) declares that indoor air is anywhere from two to ten times more hazardous than outdoor air.   It is the United States’ largest environmental health threat.   There are currently no Federal government standards for fine particulate - PM 2.5   levels in indoor air environments.  EPA's National Ambient Air Quality Standards list 15 µg/m 3 as the annual lim...
