Pollution in Grants Pass, Oregon at MOI Headquarters

Attached is a graph of the 10 minute PM2.5 concentrations from an E-BAM located near Highland Elementary School. The data is from the last 48 hours from Monday (July 29) at 2:00 pm until today (July 31) at noon. The measurement is micrograms of particulate (smoke) per cubic meter of air (ug/m3).

Yesterday at 5:00 pm we hit an hourly average of 912 ug/m3 with a 10-minute value of 987 ug/m3! Right now we are over 750 ug/m3. By comparison, the normal PM2.5 concentration in Grants Pass is less than 8 ug/m3, and the EPA annual compliance limit for PM2.5 is 12 ug/m3.

PM2.5 means that only microscopic particles smaller than 2.5 microns are measured. So these mass concentration values do not even include the ash that you can see floating around. These readings are a lot worse than we saw during most of the Biscuit fire in 2002.
